TÜİK August data: Employment loss continues in industry

According to the August 2025 data from the Turkish Statistical Institute ( TÜİK ), employment continues to decline in the industrial sector. While the number of paid employees in the industry, construction, and trade-services sectors combined increased by 1.2 percent annually, the industrial sector experienced a decline.
INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PAID EMPLOYEESThe total number of paid employees, which was 15,904,602 in the same month last year, increased to 16,089,450 in August 2025. However, the number of employees in the industrial sector decreased by 3.6 percent on an annual basis, falling to 4,892,980.
Employment in the manufacturing industry has fallenLooking at the sub-categories of industry, manufacturing saw a 3.9 percent decrease, mining a 3.3 percent decrease, and water supply a 4.2 percent decrease. In contrast, electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning production saw a 5.4 percent increase.
Employment increased in the construction sectorThe construction sector, on the other hand, was a positive standout. The number of salaried workers in construction increased by 7.2 percent to 2,011,335. The trade and services sector also saw a 2.6 percent increase.
On a monthly basis, the total number of paid employees remained unchanged. While the industrial sector fell 0.6 percent in August, construction saw a 0.4 percent increase, and trade and services saw a 0.2 percent increase.
