Inflation in Bulgaria reaches a two-year high

Bulgaria 's annual inflation rate rose to 5.6 percent in September 2025, up from 5.3 percent in the previous two months. This marked the highest level since October 2023, driven by increases in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.8 percent vs. 7.7 percent in August), clothing and footwear (0.8 percent vs. 0.5 percent), housing services (8.7 percent vs. 8.5 percent), communications (5.6 percent vs. 4.8 percent), entertainment and culture (19.1 percent vs. 14.1 percent), education (9.4 percent vs. 8.1 percent), restaurants and hotels (10.8 percent vs. 9 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.2 percent vs. 4.5 percent). At the same time, furniture and appliances and maintenance costs recovered (0.7 percent vs. -0.3 percent). Meanwhile, inflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages fell (6.2% to 6.9%). Month-on-month, consumer prices fell 0.8% in September, reversing the 0.1% increase in the previous period.
