Syrian President Sharaa to meet with Putin in Moscow

Syria's interim President Ahmed Sharaa will pay an official visit to Moscow today to reshape relations with Russia and discuss possible cooperation.
The visit, announced by Syrian state news agency SANA, is the first since the overthrow of the Assad regime and the transfer of power to Sharia.
Shara is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and representatives of the Syrian community in Russia.
According to DW Turkish, Putin and Sharaa held a phone conversation in February, during which Putin expressed his support for Syria's unity and stability and stated that he was ready to review the agreements signed with the previous government.
According to Syrian sources, this visit could usher in a new era in Damascus-Moscow relations. In Moscow, the parties will reportedly focus particularly on the reconstruction process and economic recovery.
Bashar al-Assad fled to RussiaDeposed leader Bashar al-Assad, who fled Syria in December of last year, is currently in Russia as a refugee. A court in Damascus recently requested his arrest for trial.
Russia, one of Assad's most prominent supporters, has carried out airstrikes for years against armed opposition groups, including Sharia-led Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Since taking office, Sharaa has been trying to redefine Syria's foreign relations.
