US Open 2025 draw and prize money: $4 million and top ranking up for grabs

The 2025 US Open opens with high expectations for Italy. A total of 11 Italian players will be in the main draw, with additional qualifiers potentially joining them. Attention is naturally focused on world number one Jannik Sinner , who is in the top half of the draw alongside Zverev and Draper. Carlos Alcaraz , Novak Djokovic, and Americans Shelton and Fritz are in the bottom half, making the tournament particularly competitive. Besides the possibility of seeing the season-defining Italian and Spaniards once again reach the final, the tournament stands out for its unprecedented prize money, which sets a new record in tennis history.
The record prize pool for the 2025 editionUS Open organizers have allocated $90 million , equivalent to approximately €77.5 million. This represents a 17% increase compared to 2024, with significant increases for each round and a record-breaking payout for the singles winner.

The Italians in the raceItalian tennis arrives in New York with one of the largest delegations in its history. Jannik Sinner will open the tournament against Czech Vit Kopriva, with a possible second round match against Popyrin or Ruusuvuori. Other Italians are also poised to play important roles. Lorenzo Musetti will debut against Frenchman Mpetshi Perricard, while Flavio Cobolli awaits a qualifier. Also in the upper half of the draw are Lorenzo Sonego , who will face Australian Schoolkate, and Matteo Arnaldi , who faces Argentine Francisco Cerundolo. In the lower half are Luca Nardi , drawn against top seed Machac, Luciano Darderi, who debuts against Australian Hijikata, and Mattia Bellucci, who faces China's Shang. The men's draw therefore presents many challenging matches but also interesting opportunities for the Italians.
The women's event features Jasmine Paolini , seeded 9th, who will begin against a qualifier. Lucia Bronzetti is also in the top tier, while Elisabetta Cocciaretto makes her debut in the bottom tier against Putintseva.
The Sinner-Alcaraz challenge for the number one spotBeyond the tournament, the 2025 US Open represents the decisive stage in the race for world number one between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz . After Cincinnati, the Spaniard has a virtual 60-point lead, but everything will depend on his performance in New York. The points system stipulates that Sinner, to remain number one, must achieve a better result than his Spanish rival. Specifically:
- reach at least the 3rd round if Alcaraz loses in his debut.
- push on to the round of 16 if the Iberian stops between the 2nd and 3rd round.
- advance at least one round more than Alcaraz, from the quarter-finals onwards.
The prize money and points up for grabs make this edition of the US Open one of the most significant in recent years, with the rivalry between the two young champions poised to write a new chapter after the finals of Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Sinner is also called upon to confirm last year's victory.
