Healthcare, workers of private clinics and RSA on strike on May 22

Bologna, 16 May 2025 – In Emilia-Romagna, there are at least 10,000 workers who work in the private healthcare sector and in RSA , residences for the elderly.

An 'army' fighting for the renewal of the contract and that, considering the stalemate of the negotiations, has decided to call a strike for Thursday 22 May . The strike will be nationwide.

"After the failure of the conciliation attempt, the employers' associations that belong to Aiop (Italian Association of Private Hospitals) and Aris (Religious Association of Social-Health Institutes) have not taken any steps forward and continue to subordinate the opening of negotiations for the contract renewal to the guarantee of full coverage of costs by the ministry and the Regions".

This was declared by the Emilia-Romagna secretaries of Fp-Cgil, Cisl-Fp and Uil-Fpl , Marco Bonaccini, Sonia Uccellatori and Paolo Palmarini, confirming the mobilization for the purpose of unblocking the national collective agreement of the sector and for the start of the negotiation of the single contract of the RSA.

For the unions, in fact, "a deafening silence and an unacceptable position are holding sway, which leaves approximately 10 thousand professionals in the sector in Emilia-Romagna without a contract" for six and 13 years.

"We will ask the Emilia-Romagna Region to do its part to include the criterion of the obligation to renew the contract to maintain accreditations - say the workers' representatives -, requesting the constraint through the Conference of the Regions, together with the Ministry of Health to stop what is a race to the bottom of costs that companies exercise on the living skin of workers".

The unionists have taken a tough stance: "We will not allow the right to a contract to remain hostage to economic logics that unload business risks onto workers and the community", insist Bonaccini, Uccellatori and Palmarini.

In view of the strike, as the unionists say, "we will intensify the mobilizations in the territories , with assemblies in the workplace, sit-ins and public initiatives: on the 22nd from 10.30 we will be in front of the Region and we will ask to be received immediately".
