Airline surcharges: paying more to board your flight?

Pay a surcharge for a flight, even after purchasing the ticket, or risk being grounded. This is Transavia's express request to its customers, who are invited, by email, to click on a payment link and to pay the surcharge for flights scheduled from March 3rd. In the event of non-payment, the customer will not be able to check in online.
At Orly airport, travelers are feeling outraged. "We don't change the rules mid-flight. It's a bit shocking for passengers," says one man. Transavia is applying this legal surcharge to absorb the increase in the air tax voted in the new 2025 budget . The measure should bring 800 million euros to the State to finance the ecological transition.
In concrete terms, for flights departing from France, domestically or to Europe, the tax reaches 7.40 euros. To reach the rest of the world, it increases to 15 euros. 800,000 Transavia passengers would be affected by this price adjustment.
