Camarasa transfers Francesc Macià's premises, which will be called Sotelo

The historic fruit and vegetable chain Camarasa has managed to settle part of its debt with the transfer of its flagship store, Francesc Macià's establishment, which is both a restaurant and a gourmet fruit and cheese shop.
The transaction was signed on August 5, and the new image and offering will be implemented in about two weeks. The thirty people who work there are expected to retain their jobs.
The new owners, Álex Fernández, owner of the cryptocurrency firm BitBase, and businessman Tito Bosch, have decided to rename the restaurant Sotelo, according to Crónica Global and confirmed by this newspaper. This is a reference to the name of Francesc Macià Square during the dictatorship. The Franco regime named the enclave after the conservative politician José Calvo Sotelo, whom they considered a "protomartyr."

Camarasa's owner, Marc Taribó, explains that, if all goes according to plan, he will retain management of the fruit and vegetable shop, which will continue operating within the establishment. However, the cheese and delicatessen area will disappear, transforming it into a restaurant and cocktail lounge.
The Catalan company, which has been in bankruptcy proceedings since last February, owed more than €3.5 million to various financial institutions—CaixaBank, Banco Santander, BBVA, and Banc Sabadell—and suppliers. The transfer of the establishment settles only part of this liability. Taribó states that the rent arrears for the premises have already been paid, and that part of the ICO and banking loans, as well as a smaller amount to suppliers, remain. He now hopes to be able to restructure the outstanding debt, which he has not specified.
The store opened in 2022 and has gained great popularity in the upper area of Barcelona, but Camarasa's investment efforts and declining revenue following the loss of the El Corte Inglés corners have plunged the company into debt.
