Frei announces stricter asylum measures from 6 May

Frei announces stricter asylum measures from 6 May
Financial News
Berlin – The future head of the Chancellery, Thorsten Frei (CDU), has announced stricter rules for asylum seekers starting May 6. "Anyone who attempts to enter Germany illegally must expect that from May 6 onward, they will be denied entry at the German border," the CDU politician told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group (Wednesday editions). No one can apply for asylum in the country of their choice; according to European law, the asylum application must be filed where someone first enters the European Union. "That is almost never Germany," Frei explained. The new government will "expand and intensify identity checks at the German borders from day one," Frei announced. The conditions should be created "very quickly" to "effectively limit illegal migration." This includes rejections at the border. Coordination with the country's European neighbors is underway. The planned German change of course is receiving "very broad approval," Frei said.
