Energy: Why gas storage facilities are so empty

Reading time: 2 min.
|German gas storage facilities are only half full at midyear. This shouldn't be a cause for concern, as winter is still a long way off. There is, however, cause for concern.
The pores of Rehden are currently quite empty. Germany's largest gas storage facility actually holds just under four billion cubic meters of natural gas . Actually, because at the moment, the pore storage facility in Lower Saxony is only 2.4 percent full. Recently, even slightly more was withdrawn than was flowing into the storage facility. Memories of the winter of 2021 are awakened. Back then, shortly before Russian troops invaded Ukraine, the Rehden storage facility was only moderately full. It was a harbinger of the gas crisis that would keep the country on edge throughout 2022. Is Germany sliding into the next bottleneck?
