Canadian plant-based food brand Yves Veggie Cuisine to be discontinued

Yves Veggie Cuisine, a Canadian plant-based food brand that was a staple in some vegetarian and vegan households, is being discontinued after 40 years in business, its parent company told CBC News on Thursday.

The brand specialized in meat alternatives, selling veggie versions of deli slices — like ham, turkey and salami — as well as veggie burgers, meatballs and hot dogs made from soy and other plant-based proteins.

"This decision was not made lightly. The meat-free category has been declining for several years, which led to the business becoming increasingly challenging and difficult to sustain," wrote a spokesperson for Hain Celestial Group, a U.S.-based food company.

Yves Veggie Cuisine has not been sold to another company, the spokesperson added, though shoppers will still be able to find its products on grocery store shelves through fall and into early winter.

"We recognize that this announcement may be disappointing to many loyal consumers who have supported Yves over the years. We are deeply grateful for their trust and commitment to the brand, and we extend our sincere thanks for their continued support throughout its journey."
