Trump: China to face 155% tariffs as of November 1

US President Donald Trump met with Indian representatives at the White House to mark Diwali, the holiday celebrated in India. Trump made statements on current events there.
Responding to a question about the possibility of a meeting with Putin, which White House sources said was not currently on the agenda, Trump said, "I don't want to have a pointless meeting. I don't want to waste my time. So I'll see what happens."
Recalling that he was instrumental in the agreements that ended many wars and conflicts during his term, Trump said, "I told them: 'Go to the battle lines, then pull back and go home. Everybody take a break.' Because there are two countries killing each other."
Recalling that Russia and Ukraine are losing between 5,000 and 7,000 soldiers a week, Trump said, "We'll see what happens."
Despite this, Trump hinted that the possibility of meeting with Putin could happen, saying, "We haven't made a decision yet."
Trump announces additional tariffs on ChinaResponding to a question about whether additional tariffs would be imposed on China, Trump said, "As of November 1st, there will be tariffs on China of approximately 155 percent. I don't think that's sustainable for them."
Trump, arguing that he wanted to be kind to China but that China had been very harsh on the US over the years, said, "Because we've had presidents who weren't smart about business. Some were good politicians, some weren't even good politicians. But they let China and all these other countries take advantage of us."
