Statement from FIBA regarding the British Basketball Federation

The following statements were made by FIBA regarding the issue:
"On 20 August 2025, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Executive Committee decided to establish a team of FIBA representatives to review and resolve governance issues and regulatory non-compliance arising in men's club competitions in British basketball.
Following a comprehensive assessment of the situation, including discussions and meetings with basketball stakeholders, the team in question submitted its recommendations to the FIBA Executive Committee, which today made the following decisions:
- The British Basketball Association's authority to license or recognize men's national competitions, as well as its authority to field national teams in FIBA men's senior competitions, has been temporarily suspended until the current governance issues are resolved. - A team of FIBA representatives has been authorized to develop and propose an interim governance model for the senior men's national competitions, liaising directly with basketball stakeholders and the UK government.
These measures aim to restore regulatory integrity and ensure that men's basketball in Britain achieves a sustainable governance structure as quickly as possible.
