Forest fire on Crete Island, 5 people injured

In the Lasit region of the Greek island of Crete, a fire that started in a forest the day before spread rapidly and reached residential areas, damaging some houses. More than 1,500 people were evacuated from their houses and hotels on the orders of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection. 5 people affected by the fire were taken to hospital for treatment.
While air and land firefighting efforts continue, strong winds in the region are reported to be making efforts difficult.
Evacuation orders have been issued for three areas, except the port of Lerapetra.
