How China should contribute to infrastructure and logistics in Brazil, according to Simone Tebet

How China should contribute to infrastructure and logistics in Brazil, according to Simone Tebet

In the coming years, China will “tear” Brazil apart with railways. This is the interest of Chinese President Xi Jinping , who has long been negotiating with the Brazilian government a set of partnerships for infrastructure and logistics projects. This is what the Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, has said.

In an interview with the Poder em Pauta program, broadcast live on CartaCapital 's YouTube channel this Friday 9, Tebet spoke about the negotiations on South American integration routes and Brazil's role in this process.

“We have been discussing this with China since the first month of Lula’s government,” Tebet said. “In my first meeting with President Xi Jinping, I realized that they are very interested in the issue of railways. They want to tear Brazil apart with railways,” the minister said, acknowledging that the projects are expensive.

The minister is one of Brazil's main emissaries in negotiations with the Asian giant, and will be part of President Lula 's (PT) entourage on the trip to China, scheduled for the coming days.

In Asia, Tebet intends to discuss the five routes that make up the project and agree on the terms for the construction of logistics corridors that connect Brazil to ports in the Pacific. This is a way to facilitate the shipment of goods to China.

One of these routes will run from Chancay, in Peru, to the coast of Bahia. The Peruvian port has received investments of around 3.5 billion dollars, encouraged by the Chinese company Cosco. “The idea is to create a route from below, taking in the Acre region, going down, possibly passing through Tocantins and reaching Bahia,” said Tebet.

The project also includes the construction of a bioceanic corridor, which could serve as an alternative route. “It will be something extraordinary, in terms of economic development for the interior of Brazil, for the poorest regions,” celebrated the minister.

Tebet also spoke about the tariff war between the United States and China . In line with what the federal government has been saying, the head of Planning signaled that Brazil can take advantage of the opportunities of the new commercial reality.

“Other trading partners will look at Brazil,” he projected.
