Correios publishes 2024 balance sheet with a loss of R$2.6 billion

The Post Office had a loss of 2.6 billion reais in 2024, according to an official report published this Friday 9th. The result is worse than that of the previous year, when there was also a deficit – in this case, of 634 million reais.
According to the report, the results were directly impacted by the drop in revenue from international services (in 2024, they generated R$531 million less than in the previous year) due to changes in regulations on product imports . There was an increase in revenue from parcel deliveries, but in a much smaller amount: R$157 million.
The balance sheet also reports an increase in expenses, which went from 22.3 billion reais in 2023 to 24.1 billion the following year. Total investments in 2024 were 830 million reais.
“Despite the efforts made and due to some aspects of the macroeconomic context, in 2024, the economic-financial result showed a loss”, Correios acknowledged in the report.
In the report, the postal service administration highlights that only 85% of the agencies are in deficit and funded with its own resources. Even so, “Correios guarantees universal access to postal services for everyone, with fair rates, in each of the 5,567 municipalities served”.
The costs of universalizing services represent 27% of the company's total expenses, according to the report. To meet all the demand, there are approximately 84,000 employees, more than 10,600 service units and 26,000 vehicles.
“The expectation for 2025 is to expand our scope of action as a partner of Governments, using our capillarity and installed infrastructure and, with this, provide greater convenience, speed and broad access to public services for the sustainable national development. In parallel, actions were planned aimed at increasing the participation of Correios in the free competition market, mainly with regard to expanding the offer of solutions for e-commerce”, states the report.
