Aveiro City Council awards construction of municipal pavilion for €22 million

Aveiro City Council awards construction of municipal pavilion for €22 million

Aveiro City Council today awarded, after the third public tender, the contract for the construction of the new Municipal Pavilion - Sports Workshop, with an investment of more than 22 million euros.

The contract was awarded during the municipal executive meeting for 22,103,700.20 euros, below the base price of the tender which had been set at a base price of 22,790,000 euros, and with an execution period of 540 days.

The award proposal was approved with the votes of the PSD/CDS-PP majority and the votes against of the three PS councillors, who had also already voted against opening the competition.

This was the third attempt by the local authority to award the work, after in the two previous procedures, the interested companies did not meet the criteria for awarding the respective tenders.

The new pavilion to be built next to the Aveiro Municipal Stadium has been the target of opposition from the PS candidate for the Aveiro City Council, Alberto Souto de Miranda, who speaks of a "colossal strategic error" by the current executive, as he believes that this infrastructure "does not serve the interests of Aveiro".

According to the local authority, the new sports pavilion "aims to respond to the needs of the Aveiro community", with special emphasis on the "Sport for Citizens" programs that the council wants to develop, and for sports associations with indoor sports.

The new pavilion, which will be located next to the Aveiro Municipal Stadium/Mário Duarte, will have four multi-sports fields (for the practice of various team sports), one of which will be surrounded by stands, with a capacity to receive a total of 2,500 people.

In addition to the fields with the respective official measurements for each sport, the pavilion will have a multipurpose gym (for individual sports), suitable facilities for technicians/trainers, facilities for use by clubs/associations, various support areas, rooms for athlete rehabilitation, training rooms, an auditorium and a study room.

Likewise, there will be an area allocated to the council team that will manage the municipal sports equipment and management, as well as areas that may be concessioned, namely support bars, a gym and a physiotherapy clinic.
