The most important route by the sea at the finish. However, it will be much more expensive

The most important route by the sea at the finish. However, it will be much more expensive
  • More than PLN 330 million than originally signed in the contracts - that's how much more the companies building the Metropolitan Bypass in Pomerania will earn.
  • GDDKiA mentions two reasons for this state of affairs: Russian aggression against Ukraine and the discovery of an illegal waste disposal site.
  • The deadline for completion of the work, however, has remained unchanged. Workers are to leave the construction site by September 15, 2025.

Contracts for the construction of two sections of the Metropolitan Bypass were signed in 2021. Initially, the agreed amounts were to be PLN 716 million for the Chwaszczyno-Żukowo section and PLN 827 million for the Żukowo-Gdańsk Południe section. However, it is already known that both of these amounts are out of date. Both sections have a total length of about 32 km.

Annexes already signed. Bypass contractors will earn over PLN 300 million more

Valorisation annexes have already been concluded with the contractors of both sections. As the representative of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways explained in an interview with the trojmiasto.pl portal, there are two main reasons for increasing the amounts for the discussed sections.

The first of these is supposed to be the Russian attack on Ukraine . The second, in turn, is the illegal waste dump found on the construction site. GDDKiA and the contractor agreed that neither party could have foreseen its existence before the work began.

The amount for the construction of the first of the discussed sections increased from PLN 716 million to PLN 882 million. In the case of the second, it increased from PLN 827 million to almost PLN 1 billion. In total, this means that the construction of both sections will be approximately PLN 336 million more expensive than it resulted from the originally concluded contracts.

And so, in the case of task 1, i.e. the section from Chwaszczyno to Żukowo, the contract increased from PLN 716 to PLN 882 million (of which PLN 107 million is a contractual indexation of 15% of the contract value).

September 15, 2025 - construction works are to be completed by this date

The investment will include the construction of the Żukowo - Gdańsk Południe Route, the Żukowo Bypass and the Żukowo and Lublewo junctions. The Gdańsk Południe junction will also be expanded at the junction of the existing S6 Tricity Bypass and the S7 Southern Gdańsk Bypass. The construction of the Widlino Traveler Service Area (category I) is also planned. The Żukowo Bypass will connect with national road no. 7 in Przyjaźń and will be connected to national road no. 20 in Glincz via the Żukowo junction.

According to the agreement with the contractors, construction works should be completed by September 15, 2025.
