Nobody expected this. New super fighters are flying to Poland
  • The Polish Air Force currently has 48 F-16 fighters and a dozen or so MiG-29s, and in the coming years the fleet is to be joined by 32 ordered F-35 aircraft.
  • The operating costs of these machines are significant: an hour of flight for an F-16 costs around PLN 77,000, for a MiG-29 over PLN 101,000, and the latest F-35 can cost as much as PLN 130,000–150,000 per hour.
  • The Korean FA-50 machines are definitely cheaper, with an hour of flight costing around PLN 38,000.

The Polish air fleet currently consists of 48 F-16 multirole fighters and a dozen or so post-Soviet MiG-29 aircraft. Our country has also purchased 32 F-35 aircraft .

According to plans , the first F-35 aircraft will reach the Polish Air Force this year. Deliveries are to last until 2030. Poland is to receive up to six units per year.

The most frequently attacked are F-16s. What is the cost of each flight of our main super fighter? This information may come as a big surprise to many.

As we wrote in the CIS, during one hour of flight, without afterburners, the F-16 uses about 2.8 thousand liters of fuel . Our fighters use JET-A1 fuel, the price of which at the airport is about PLN 3.21/liter. Other costs must be added to this, such as:

  • excise duty - approx. PLN 1.44,
  • fuel fee rate - PLN 240 per tonne of fuel.

Business Insider wrote that a total hour of flight of the F-16 costs around PLN 77,000. We are talking here not only about the flight itself, but also about the costs of its maintenance - engineering and flight service.

Business Insider explained that in the case of the MiG-29, an hour of flight costs over PLN 101,000. It will be more expensive in the case of the F-35. The cost of the flight is estimated at up to PLN 130-150,000 per hour.

The army's newest aircraft, the Korean FA-50, are to be much cheaper to operate. The Ministry of National Defense has estimated the cost of an hour of flight for these aircraft at around PLN 38,000. The first 12 ordered are training aircraft, while the next 36 will serve as training and combat aircraft.
