Górnik still sounds proud. These are the most respected professions in Poland

Górnik still sounds proud. These are the most respected professions in Poland
  • Poles have once again given their assessments to representatives of various professions and specialties.
  • This year, 51 professional categories were analyzed.
  • For the fifth year in a row, the undisputed winners of the ranking were firefighters, enjoying the respect of 83 percent of citizens.

There are no changes in the runner-up position, which in 2025 went to paramedics (81.5%). However, this year's ranking has a significant change in third place. The bronze medalist was the debutant in the ranking - a passenger plane pilot with 81% social respect.

The miner's profession was ranked ninth

The top three professions stand out from the rest, as evidenced by the fact that the average difference in the level of social respect between the next two specializations from the top of the ranking so far is as much as 8 percentage points. And we are talking about nurse and doctor, who took 4th and 5th place this year, respectively.

The miner's profession - which came in ninth - was indicated as respected by 62.3% of respondents. Ninth place means a drop of two places compared to last year, but it is still high. Especially since miners have not had good press for years. They are often subject to a lot of hate.

People remember that the work of a miner is difficult and dangerous

- I think we have made these miners into "whipping boys" of our own accord. We criticize them everywhere, and unfortunately, in recent years, there has been negative talk about this mining industry - admitted Jarosław Zagórowski, director of the Central Mining Institute - State Research Institute, former president of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, during the European Economic Congress. - Young people do not want to go to university (related to mining - editor's note). Universities naturally follow the student, their expectations. And so they have started to lose competences related to mining - indicated Jarosław Zagórowski.

People remember, however, that the work of a miner is difficult and dangerous. And the ethos of mining work is still alive, although in recent years - as the domestic mining industry has shrunk - it has lost its importance.

The lowest social recognition for years has been attributed to internet creators, i.e. influencers (13.6%) and YouTubers (13.8%).

Right behind them were political activists – members of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland (21.7%) and members of the European Parliament (22.2%).
