Tourism: Dominican Republic to receive 6,145,008 visitors so far in 2025

In the first half of 2025 , the Dominican Republic reached a new record of visitors , with the arrival of 6,145,008 people , according to the latest figures provided by the Ministry of Tourism.

This total, the highest in the history of the sector for the January-June period, represents an increase of 3% over last year, with 185,166 additional visitors .

According to statistics, 4,514,093 tourists arrived in the country by air, while 1,630,915 arrived by sea.

"When you look at those two figures together, you realize how much we've grown: 6,145,008 visitors chose our country for their vacation. This is historic," said Tourism Minister David Collado during the presentation of the sector's results.

The main issuing countries were the United States ( 45%) , Canada (18%), Argentina (6%) and Colombia (4%), while Puerto Rico, France, England, Chile and Germany contributed 2% each.

Punta Cana was the airport with the highest volume of arrivals during this period. This terminal accounted for 63% of all tourists , equivalent to 2,845,622 people.

They were followed by airports :

  • The Americas: 888,331
  • The Cibao: 454,804
  • Puerto Plata: 227,842
  • La Romana: 62,441
  • Other terminals: 35,053

During this same period, the total number of flights arrived was 35,114. The five countries with the most flights were the United States (50%), Canada (12%), Panama (6%), Colombia (5%), and Puerto Rico (5%). Punta Cana accounted for 23% of the total flights.

Experiences

National hotel occupancy reached 77%, and the satisfaction index stood at 4.4 out of 5.

93% of tourists said they would repeat the destination and 60% would recommend it.

The most popular excursions were Saona Island , the Colonial Zone , Catalina Island, Cayo Levantado, and Los Haitises. Other notable activities included snorkeling, buggy and horseback riding, ziplining, golf, theme park visits, and kayaking.

Collado stated that, at the current rate of growth, the goal of 12 million visitors will be reached by the end of 2025 .

These figures were presented during the official ceremony held at the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel, led by President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism , with the presence of representatives from the sector and the media.

The president highlighted the dynamism of tourism and reiterated that this is an opportune time to invest in the Dominican Republic , especially in this sector. He attributed the sustained growth to collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He also confirmed that he will lead the Dominican delegation participating in the International Tourism Fair ( Fitur 2026 ), which will be held from January 21 to 25 of next year. Pedernales will be the special destination to be promoted this year.
