La Línea de la Concepción and Linares are the municipalities with the highest unemployment rate in Spain.

La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), with a rate of 28.6%, and the Jaén municipality of Linares (27.6%), are the municipalities with the highest unemployment rates in Spain, with an estimated average unemployment rate for 2024 of 28.6% and 27.6%, respectively. They are followed by the autonomous cities of Melilla, with a rate of 26.5%, and Ceuta (26.3%) . At the other end of the spectrum, Sant Cugat del Vallés, in Barcelona, and Las Rozas, in Madrid, are the municipalities in Spain with the lowest unemployment rate , with an estimated average unemployment rate of 5% and 5.4% for 2024. They are followed by San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa), with 5.5%, and Castelldefels (Barcelona), with a rate of 6.3%.
Sant Cugat and Las Rozas are once again among the three municipalities with the lowest unemployment rates in this edition, but Pozuelo , which was in second place in the previous report a year ago, no longer appears among the top 15 municipalities with the lowest unemployment rate.
Of the 15 municipalities with the highest average unemployment rates estimated for 2024, the majority are located in Andalusia. Thus, in addition to those already mentioned, we must also add Granada (24.5%), Algeciras (22.6%), Armilla (22%), Jerez de la Frontera (21.8%), Jaén (21.7%), Sanlúcar de Barrameda and San Fernando (20.3% in both cases), Almería (20.1%), Córdoba (19.6%), and Chiclana de la Frontera (19.5%).
Outside of the Andalusian region and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, only Talavera de la Reina, in Toledo, makes it into this top 15 of municipalities with the highest unemployment rate, with an unemployment rate of 20.8%.
In contrast, among the 15 municipalities with the lowest unemployment rates are two in the Community of Madrid (Las Rozas and Rivas-Vaciamadrid); four in Catalonia (Sant Cugat, Barcelona, Castelldefels, and Lleida); two in the Basque Country (San Sebastián and Irún); two in Castile and León (Burgos and Palencia); two in Galicia (Santiago de Compostela and Lugo); one in Aragon (Zaragoza); one in Navarre (Pamplona); and one in the Balearic Islands (Ibiza).
The El Viso neighborhood, the richest in SpainSince there are also significant inequalities within cities, the statistics collect data for levels below the city level, called sub-city districts (SCDs). In many cases, these levels coincide with the existing division into administrative districts or neighborhoods.
The neighborhoods with the highest average annual net income per inhabitant as of 2023 within cities with more than 250,000 inhabitants were El Viso (€44,901), Recoletos (€41,648), and La Piovera (€40,755) , all three in Madrid.
In contrast, the lowest incomes were found in Seville, in the Los Pajaritos and Amate neighborhoods in the Cerro-Amate district (€7,311); in the Seville neighborhood of Polígono Sur in the Sur district (€7,422); and in the Alicante neighborhood of Juan XXIII (€7,704).
The cheapest apartmentsAccording to these statistics, Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, in Ibiza, and the Gipuzkoa municipality of Zarautz are the most expensive locations to buy a home, at €6,807 and €6,511 per square meter. These two municipalities are the only ones of the 429 municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants studied by the INE (National Institute of Statistics) in this statistic with prices exceeding €6,000 per square meter.
They are followed by Santa Eulària des Riu, also in Ibiza, with 5,890 euros per square meter; Calvià, in Mallorca, with 5,865 euros per square meter; Ibiza, with 5,479 euros per square meter; and San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa), with 5,317 euros per square meter.
In contrast, the lowest prices are found in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), at 558 euros per square meter; Almendralejo (Badajoz), at 581 euros per square meter; and Villena (Alicante), at 603 euros per square meter.
According to the statistics, the three municipalities with the highest average home purchase prices in 2024 were Sant Josep de Sa Talaia (€969,434), Calvià (€862,953), and Pozuelo de Alarcón, in Madrid, (€858,788).
On the other hand, the three municipalities with the lowest average purchase prices were Mieres (Asturias), with 53,970 euros, Puertollano (57,531 euros) and Langreo (Asturias), with 62,563 euros.
Pozuelo, the biggest expenseThe statistics also reveal that the three municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants with the highest average monthly rent expenditure in 2023 were Pozuelo de Alarcón, in Madrid, with 1,131 euros ; Sant Cugat del Vallès, in Barcelona, with 1,086 euros; and Majadahonda (Madrid), with 1,027 euros.
On the other hand, the lowest average monthly rental expenses for a primary residence are in Cieza (Murcia), at 303 euros; Priego de Córdoba (Córdoba), at 309 euros; and A Estrada (Pontevedra), at 310 euros.
Among cities with more than 250,000 inhabitants, Madrid and Barcelona accounted for 94 of the 100 neighborhoods with the highest average monthly rent expenditure. The highest rates were in Recoletos (1,866 euros), Pedralbes (1,865 euros), and Castellana (1,706 euros).
On the other hand, the lowest monthly rents were found in the Cañadas de San Pedro district of Murcia, at 353 euros; in most of the Torreagüera and Beniaján districts, also in Murcia, at 406 euros; and in the Juan XXIII neighborhood of Alicante, at 397 euros.
