Confirmed: Early retirement without cuts is now possible for truck drivers, taxi drivers, and bus drivers.

The government has approved a law that allows, under certain conditions, an earlier retirement age without any cuts for those who perform jobs considered arduous , dangerous , or unhealthy . This category includes truck drivers , taxi drivers , and bus drivers .
As labor lawyer Ignacio de la Calzada explains in one of the videos on his TikTok account, the regulation is not new. However, with Royal Decree 402/2025 , already published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), it is extended to other professions, such as professional transport . It had been a long-standing demand from the sector.
Until now, these professionals shared the same retirement age as any other worker: 66 years and 6 months , on the way to 67. However, the specific conditions of their work, with long hours , exposure to stress , lack of generational change and road risks , have led the Executive to propose a structural reform .
Requirements to qualify for early retirementRoyal Decree 402/2025 provides that this group can retire at 62. However, the exact age will depend on factors such as the number of years of contributions and the amount of time actually worked in their sector . For professional transporters and drivers, the following will be required:
- Have worked at least 10 effective years in the profession.
- For voluntary early retirement , they may reach the age of 63 having accredited 38 years and three months of contributions .
- For involuntary early retirement , those eligible are 61 years of age with a minimum of 36 to 38.2 years of contributions . They must also justify objective reasons, such as dismissal or a health problem .
In cases where the work is considered particularly dangerous , retirement may be granted before the age of 61 if there are no alternatives to improve working conditions.
In addition to the transportation sector, this rule will apply to workers in the hotel sector , care workers , industrial cleaning staff, and other occupations classified as arduous. It will also benefit self-employed workers and public employees .
Although the Royal Decree is already in force, it has not yet been implemented. This is expected to happen in 2026 .
