Summer, a conscious and low-budget tourism is expected

Summer is upon us and there is no shortage of desire to travel, but for Italians it will be a time of economic prudence , which pushes towards conscious tourism , that is, without excess. This is explained by a survey conducted by the online bank N26 which analyzed habits, spending choices and travel preferences for the upcoming season, questioning its social community.
51% of respondents said they want to allocate more resources to travel and leisure than in the past, a goal that however clashes with some obstacles related to the budget : 42% of respondents plan to spend less than 500 euros per person , marking a contraction compared to 2024 and, if 14% of respondents have increased their budget, there is no shortage of those who have kept it stable (30%) or have even reduced it (30%), in a range that goes from -10% to -30% compared to last year.
The way of planning holidays is also changing. The last minute trend continues to grow : more than one in two Italians has not yet decided if or where they will go on holiday, only 24% have already organised themselves, while 13% prefer last minute decisions, always in light of economic uncertainty. Holidays will therefore be characterised by flexibility and attention to spending.
The research also analyzed the payment methods most used by travelers: 49% use virtual cards via wallets such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, while 43% prefer physical cards. Only 8% use prepaid cards, and cash withdrawals are not indicated by anyone as the preferred option. Those who responded to the survey indicated abroad - chosen by 41% of interviewees - as their main destination : Italy is preferred by 36%. Destinations immersed in nature such as the sea, mountains or lakes are better (31%), compared to cities (only 5%).
