St Crisis, the company does not change the plan and the union confirms the strike

The protest of the St workers of Agrate
Agrate (Monza e Brianza), 17 May 2025 – The numbers are still missing, but the forecasts remain the same : cuts and core business on 300 millimetres, research and development. While the company denies that it is dismantling machinery to transfer to China and Singapore , emptying Agrate , the unions' fears are increasing.
Disappointment for “the lack of corrections ” to the industrial plan of St which “apart from a few small cosmetic revisions – says Pietro Occhiuto of Fiom-Cgil Brianza – in fact does not retreat a millimeter”. Uilm adds: “ We were amazed that they are bringing forward investments to 2026 – adds delegate Simona Cavarra – the only news is this because for the rest there is the confirmation of a project that the RSU rejected and we cannot consider it good news. No one has expressed an opinion on the redundancies ”. And this remains the other sore point of the table convened by the Development Councilor Guido Guidesi, who had asked for a review of the prospects for the site on Via Olivetti of the multinational semiconductor company. But for the metalworkers , who confirmed the strike on Wednesday, the day before the summit in Rome, “nothing has changed since these weeks”. The tension is rising precisely on the impact that the maneuver will have on employment. The first crux of the problem, together with the future of the plant and its related industries, is the 5,300 employees in the company, "at least as many in the supply chain".
“In this context, we strongly request that any action of productive transfer be immediately suspended – Occhiuto reiterates –. Until there is a new shared industrial plan, it is necessary to stop any unilateral initiative that could further compromise the integrity of the Brianza site. Respect for the places of discussion also passes through this. We ask Minister Urso to fully assume his responsibilities: it is not enough to acknowledge the problem , it is necessary to create the conditions for the Group to be called to radically review the industrial project”.
For Enrico Vacca, secretary of Fim Brianza, "the only step forward, completely insufficient, is a timid acceleration of investments, moreover without any increase, which can only lead us to intensify the mobilization on Agrate". And for Uilm also " dissatisfaction because the minister has confirmed the 'goodness' of the industrial plan presented to the Mimit highlighting that the investments on Catania will also bring work to the Northern related industries for a good 41% - underlines Vittorio Sarti, regional secretary -. We are deeply against this project and ask for its withdrawal, in its place, one with investments in Lombardy and without redundancies is needed".
