Duties, Trump's letter to trading partners: "Give us your best offer by tomorrow"

This was revealed by Reuters according to which the Department of Commerce has intensified talks with Europe, Japan, Canada and Latin American countries . The threat concerns hundreds of products, including steel, cars, electronics and wine. A draft letter to partners seen by the agency and originating from the office of the United States Trade Representative, offers a glimpse of how Donald Trump intends to conclude the negotiations that began on April 9, when he suspended the "Liberation Day" duties for 90 days - until July 8 - in the face of the reaction of the stock, bond and currency markets to the radical nature of the taxes.

The document suggests an urgency within the administration to conclude the agreements by the looming deadline. Despite assurances from some officials, including White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett , only one agreement has been reached so far with a major U.S. trading partner: Britain . The United States pledges to evaluate responses within days and offer common ground that could include a reciprocal tariff rate.
