Arconate - Cows in Villoresi: 24 out of 29 have returned home. The maxi operation of the Fire Brigade in Arconate - Archive - Varese News

The rescue operations of the herd of cows that ended up in the Villoresi canal have been going on for hours: all the animals have been recovered, but unfortunately some cows have died due to the strong current. The operation began around lunchtime yesterday, Friday 6 June, in Arconate where the Fire Brigade created a real dam to extract the cattle from the water. In total, 24 animals were saved and four died, some of them were recovered in Parabiago.
MAXI OPERATION The deployment of forces deployed was impressive. On site were two vehicles from the Inveruno Volunteer Fire Brigade, one from the Legnano detachment and three teams from Milan . All of them were supported by river rescue specialists, divers from the regional unit and the Fire Brigade flight department with the Drago helicopter from Malpensa. With them was also a vehicle from Turin . Two cranes were also used to extract the cattle. At the same time, the Local Police were busy managing the traffic on Via Roma in Arconate. The Carabinieri from the Local Station also intervened, as well as the Civil Protection, the operators of the Villoresi Park and the technicians from the ATS Milano to check the health of the animals. In support, ready to intervene if necessary, were also the personnel of 118.
The operations were made particularly difficult by the water flow of the canal and the need to safely recover large animals. The cattle rescued by means of suitable vehicles were then transferred to the farm of origin. According to what was ascertained, the cattle did not fall from an accident vehicle, as was supposed in an initial hypothesis, but simply escaped from the control of their owner. They would have ended up in the canal in the Varese area and then carried down by the current.
