In Angers, the summer of those who don't go on vacation

The "Walk and Chat" senior meetings are a success. Despite mixed weather, on Wednesday, July 16, around twenty people gathered at the entrance to Démazis Park in Angers, after registering for free with the municipal social action center (CCAS). Many will not be going on vacation during the summer, or even at any other time of year. "It costs too much, and I don't like leaving home," says Françoise (those interviewed did not want to give their names), 71, a former payroll manager in the national education system.
She is nevertheless teeming with projects: making a photo album from A to Z, cover and pages included, taking advantage of the cardboard-making classes she takes during the school year; coloring new mandalas to decorate her walls; discovering the exhibition tour "Le Voyage à Nantes" with friends, thanks to the 30-euro train pass for five... not to mention the CCAS conferences, workshops, and senior outings. "During the year, you can sign up for six activities per month, but in the summer, it's unlimited!"
An opportunity that Danielle, 72, is also seizing, happy to "see people again" after long months of treating cancer, and Denise, an 84-year-old former teacher, who goes every evening to see her sister, who lives in a nursing home and "doesn't eat anymore if we don't help her" .
