On Monday, July 28, François Bayrou criticized the terms of the trade agreement announced the day before by Ursula von der Leyen and Donald Trump. It was a " dark day" for Europe, which "is resigning itself to submission," the Prime Minister denounced.
François Bayrou lamented Monday, July 28, "a dark day" for Europe, which "resolved to submit" by signing the trade agreement announced Sunday between the European Union and the United States.
"It is a dark day when an alliance of free peoples, gathered to affirm their values and defend their interests, resolves to submit," reacted the French Prime Minister on X.
The agreement sets US tariffs on European products at 15% , and the EU commits to $750 billion in energy purchases – aimed in particular at replacing Russian gas – and $600 billion in additional investment in the United States.
