Manzanillo Power Land: Contributions to the National Electric System

The Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), Noel Báez , visited the facilities of the Manzanillo Power Land natural gas plant , in the Pepillo Salcedo municipality, with the aim of learning about the progress in the construction of this project , which will begin operations at the end of 2025 with an estimated contribution of 414 megawatts to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).

During the tour, Báez was accompanied by a delegation of MEM officials, led by the Director of Hydrocarbon Regulation, Wandy Tejada, and the Director of Energy Infrastructure, Wilson Núñez, according to a press release.

The delegation received technical explanations from plant executives and personnel regarding the project 's main components, the technology used, and the level of execution of the work.

The official emphasized that the innovations Power Land is incorporating to strengthen the SENI constitute an unprecedented milestone in the national energy sector, and he praised the central government's support for this type of initiative.

"This is a plant that puts the Dominican Republic on par with international standards , compared to other countries with this type of cutting-edge technology . As a state, we have created the conditions to guarantee society stable, consistent, and, above all, high-quality electricity generation," said Noel Báez .

For his part, engineer Jorge Castillo, technical director of Energía 2000, the company that manages the plant, reported that all phases of the project are being carried out according to the established schedule , with the goal of starting operations this year .

"The power will be transmitted over a 345,000-volt grid , which is expected to be inaugurated soon. Once energized, we will begin internal testing , with a firm commitment to providing that power this year," Castillo said.

The tour of Manzanillo Power Land is part of the technical visits organized by the Energy Infrastructure Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) to ensure the efficient and safe operation of generating plants nationwide.
