MP Materials share: turning point for rare earths?

MP Materials relies on US supply chains and benefits from trade conflicts. Analysts see upside potential for the stock.
Rare earths – the invisible raw material behind electric cars, wind turbines, and smartphones. While China has long dominated the market, a new dynamic may now be emerging. MP Materials, a major player outside of China, is responding to the recent trade conflicts with a radical change in strategy. But can the company seize the opportunity?

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it still worth investing in MP Materials ?
MP Materials' decision was clear: no more rare earth shipments to China. This is due to the drastic 125% tariffs imposed by Beijing. Instead, the company is now fully committed to building its own supply chain in the USA. The California plant already processes almost half of its production for markets such as Japan, South Korea, and the USA itself.
Booming interest from investors
The reorientation appears to be attracting attention: Searches for MP Materials have exploded in recent weeks – by 111% from India and even 130% from the US. The reason is obvious: In the shadow of the trade conflicts, more and more manufacturers are looking for reliable sources outside of China. MP Materials could be a beneficiary here.
- Expansion underway: The expansion of refinery and magnet production is in full swing.
- Political support: The company works closely with the US government to strengthen the domestic supply of rare earths.
Analysts see potential
The majority of analysts remain optimistic—80% continue to recommend the stock as a buy. The median price target is $28.10, which would indicate significant upside potential from current levels. The company will deliver its next key earnings release on May 8th with the release of its quarterly results.
After a decline of over 6% on Friday, the stock is now at a crucial point. Can MP Materials seize the opportunity and establish itself as a leading alternative to China? The coming weeks will tell.
