Trade in unused sports gear with Decathlon's first-ever Easter Buyback Weekend

As the Easter weekend approaches, for many, it’s a time to get outdoors and be active. Whether it’s running, cycling, camping with the family or playing a game of tennis with friends.
For those who like trying new activities but are conscious of the cost of equipment, one solution could be selling or trading in old, no longer-used items. To help address the over 100 million pieces of unused sports gear sitting in UK homes, retailer Decathlon has launched its first-ever Easter Buyback Weekend.
The Buyback program will run from Good Friday to Easter Monday (excluding Easter Sunday) and will be available in more than 40 stores nationwide. This gives people the chance to trade in their pre-loved sports gear and equipment.

Not only will this save shoppers money just in time for Easter but it also helps to reduce waste and give their equipment a second shot at life. Decathlon members who trade items in will also receive a 20% bonus back - up to £50 - on top of the standard Buyback value, awarded as a Decathlon gift card.
The Buyback program was initially founded just for Decathlon bicycles however, it expanded in April 2024 and now accepts 50 different items across over 15 sports and activity categories, regardless of brand. These include activities such as cycling, golf, horse riding, racquet sports, combat sports, GPS and watches, camping and many more.
It is worth noting that to claim the 20% Buyback bonus, customers do need to be a Decathlon member which also unlocks a number of additional perks such as earning rewards on every purchase and a welcome bonus of 1,000 points when joining.
Customers don’t need to worry about the brand of their equipment as the program takes any, however due to high demand, Decathlon is especially encouraging trade-ins for bikes, water sports equipment and racks. Depending on its condition, customers can reclaim up to 40% of an item’s value via a Decathlon gift card.
To access the program and begin the process, customers simply have to complete an online assessment which will give them an estimate on their item and then schedule an appointment to their nearest store. This is where the trade will happen, and they will receive their gift card.
If customers don’t fancy trying Decathlon’s program this Easter, they could have a look towards Sports Direct - which also has a range of sportswear, trainers, equipment and membership options with exclusive offers, monthly prize draws and events. Go Outdoors is another alternative place for customers to get great deals and exclusives this weekend, as it currently has exclusive member deals for fishing, sleeping bags and tour packages for cheaper prices.
Decathlon has a 3.6 out of 5 star rating from more than 42,000 reviews on Trustpilot as one customer said: “Wow, absolute 5 star service. The team was amazing, helping us choose the right bikes for the kids. The build and service team were excellent.
"A free service within six weeks once they have settled into the bikes - the team couldn’t do enough. I would definitely recommend getting your bikes from here.”
Another buyer said: “Great value products. 2 in 1 shorts and sports sunglasses both served me well in my recent half marathon. Highly recommend the products.”
However, one shopper said: “The website let me down. When I first tried to buy my size it was available, but after six tries over two days, my size was gone, I was very disappointed.” But a happier customer praised Decathlon's speedy delivery: "Great value product. Fast delivery."
