Brits can get their hands on a variety of Oreo products these days (file)

Oreo is a popular America brand of sandwich cookie consisting of two cocoa biscuits with a sweet fondant filling. However, it has also been available in the UK since May 2008, when they were first introduced in Britain through Sainsbury's.

Now, the brand is available in most UK supermarkets and stores, with many different varieties on sale. As well as the original biscuits, Brits can also buy gingerbread flavour Oreos, as well as Oreo Ice Cream, Oreo Sandwich Cream, Oreo Birthday Party flavour and Golden Oreos.

You can also get double cream versions, Oreo doughnuts, Vanilla Latte flavour, lunchbox packs, chocolate brownie flavour and the raspberry and vanilla 'twist' flavour.

However, one thing I hadn't spotted before, up until this weekend, was Oreo Crumbs. If you're wondering what they are, then they're pretty much exactly what you may be thinking – literal crumbs.

I had never seen Oreo Crumbs, until this weekend ( Samantha Bartlett)

The official descriptions is that they are chocolate flavour sandwich biscuits crushed into small pieces and are apparently "perfect for baking, mixing in with ice cream and topping milkshakes".

Now, I'm all for companies making things convenient for customers who have busy lives. I mean, let's be honest, who hasn't bought the odd bag of pre-cut carrots when you're in a rush? However, to sell literal crumbs is baffling to me.

Surely it's not that hard to just bash up a few biscuits if you're making a cheesecake or something?

Being a chocolate and food lover, I often keep an eye out for new products on supermarket shelves and hadn't spotted these before. However, I came across them at the weekend when visiting the Cadbury outlet store in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth.

According to a quick Google search, the product has been available in the UK since 2001, with one person on Instagram posting about spotting them in B&M back then.

However, it seems like despite some people being excited by the product, others had the same view as me, as one person wrote at the time: "I don’t know how I feel about these... kinda feel like they are just ripping people off for more money... just buy Oreos and do it yourself?"

The Oreo Crumbs were on sale at the Cadbury outlet for £1.99 – down from £3.99, and I wasn't really surprised that they were half price. I mean, the shelves weren't exactly empty with people trying to get their hands on them.

I once heard a quote that read: 'If you settle for crumbs, then you're always be starving,' and I think in this case, they might be right.
