The Supreme Court overturned the decision to dismiss the previous TTB Central Council.

The Supreme Court overturned the decision to dismiss the previous TTB Central Council.

The decision regarding the appeal review of the case, which resulted in the dismissal of the previous term Central Council of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and whose appeal was rejected, was announced on June 11, 2025, at the 3rd Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals.

The written statement made by the Union regarding the decision includes the following statements:

The Supreme Court of Appeals overturned the local court's decision to dismiss the previous TTB Central Council members. The decision primarily evaluated the procedural aspects of the case, and the overturning decision was based on the grounds that the hostility against which the case was directed was flawed, the prosecutor's office's failure to monitor the hearing was a deficiency, and the failure to hear the TTB Central Council members constituted a violation of their legal right to be heard.

We have voiced our objections, both procedural and substantive, at every stage of this lawsuit filed to dismiss former TTB Central Council members. Indeed, the decision has once again proven our vindication. However, regardless of the outcome of this politically motivated lawsuit, which lacks legal basis, we wish to reiterate that it constitutes an attack on the TTB's organization, the autonomy of professional chambers, and democratic representation. These attacks, which violate constitutional rights, are dangerous not only for the TTB but for every institution and every individual.

Indeed, it's clear that the government's ongoing strategy of using the judiciary to remove elected officials from office and silencing professional organizations and representatives of the democratic public is a continuing mindset. Therefore, it's our responsibility to stand in solidarity and fight together against any attacks that constitute interference with our freedom of association, freedom of expression, or the right to vote and be elected.

We expect the local court to dismiss/dismiss the case based on the overturning decision. However, regardless of the decisions made or to be made, the TTB will continue to work for public health, the rights of its colleagues, and all healthcare workers, guided by scientific knowledge and without compromising the ethical principles of the medical profession, and to defend the common ground of struggle encompassing the values of good medicine, professional independence, and professional organization autonomy under all circumstances.
