Pervin Buldan's response to Erdoğan's alliance remarks: The path everyone is on is clear.

Pervin Buldan's response to Erdoğan's alliance remarks: The path everyone is on is clear.

İmralı Delegation member and Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Pervin Buldan, commented on the speech made by AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the opening of his party's 32nd Consultation and Evaluation Meeting.

"Frankly, I find the speech very valuable and invaluable. It contained important messages about what needs to be done in terms of the process and the steps to be taken from now on," Buldan said, evaluating Erdoğan's speech. He also stated that Erdoğan's speech was very important for the DEM Party, saying, "In addition, I think it was also significant that he addressed past mistakes, particularly those made by the state, and presented them as a form of self-criticism, referencing unsolved murders, the White Toros Mountains, village constructions, and periods when speaking Kurdish was prohibited. When we consider all of this together, I think the speech was very positive, inclusive, and embracing in its content."

Buldan continued:

There's an emphasis on taking important steps to address what needs to happen from now on. The process is continuing in its various stages. He also stated—as he himself stated—that this process can progress in the next stages, particularly through dialogue, negotiation, and coming together, and through the partnership of both the People's Alliance and the Democratic Party (DEM) in this regard. This was also important.

CLARIFIED THE ALLIANCE PROMISES

Buldan made the following assessment regarding Erdoğan’s words, “Now, we have decided to walk this path together as a trio, the AKP, the Nationalist Movement Party, and the Democratic Party (DEM) at least,”:

Don't let it be misinterpreted. This alliance is a process alliance. It absolutely shouldn't be perceived as just another alliance. Everyone's line and path are clear. Therefore, this was a message that the DEM Party and the People's Alliance will walk a common path in terms of the process. Of course, as the DEM Party, we are at the very center of this process, but it is the People's Alliance that must resolve it. Therefore, such a unity, such a partnership, would be meaningful. I think we should call it a process alliance. The message given by Mr. President also signaled that this unity would be based on the process.

Other highlights from Buldan's statements include:

"We already had information that the commission would be established shortly. He himself stated this today. I believe we need to take all necessary steps as soon as possible, without further ado. As you know, the longer the process drags on, the more provocations and other initiatives it can lead to," he said. Buldan emphasized that the faster each step taken will lead to a quicker success in the process, saying, "Of course, the commission is a specific phase of this process. It's important that the laws to be enacted, once the commission is established, are quickly determined within the commission, and that these laws are enacted and implemented upon the opening of Parliament."

Unsolved murders have always existed in the Republic of Turkey. They existed before the AKP, and they existed during the AKP's era. I believe we need to consider the future. If this is a self-criticism, issues like unsolved murders, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings must be removed from Türkiye's agenda. There are long-term struggles on this issue. There are struggles waged by the Saturday Mothers and the relatives of the disappeared. I believe steps need to be taken on this issue as well. There are still mothers who want to be reunited with their children, who have no stone, no soil, no grave. Therefore, when we consider all of this together, it's time to address these issues, both in the past and in the current process, by considering these issues and perhaps by discussing them within a commission to be established.

"We already have talks regarding Syria," he said. It's important that he refers to the Kurds outside the borders, that it's our issue, that he signals that Turkey will be at the center of policy-making on the Kurdish issue in the Middle East, but Syria is a different place.

"There are still some issues that need to be resolved in Syria and Rojava, especially the Syrian issue that has been in the press for the past few days, and which we've gathered from our own readings. If there are significant developments regarding these issues, I would like to emphasize that the issue must be resolved in some way, at least for the Kurds living in Syria. Because the events in Syria and Rojava affect all Kurds, a solution there is necessary as soon as possible."
