Istanbul inflation: Price increase leader education group

According to the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), inflation in the city fell to 40.83 percent in August. The education group led the way in price increases ahead of the new academic year, with a 14.71 percent increase.

The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce announced inflation as 42.48 percent in July.

According to the agency's July data, retail prices in the city increased by 1.84 percent and wholesale prices by 2.56 percent compared to the previous month.

The monthly increase rates in the Istanbul Consumer Price Index are as follows:

  • Health expenditures: 8.08 percent
  • Housing: 2.48 percent
  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 4.77 percent
  • Miscellaneous goods and services: 1.21 percent,
  • Communication: 0.77 percent
  • Household goods: 1.42 percent
  • Restaurants and hotels: 0.39 percent
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 2.28 percent
  • Entertainment and culture: 2.04 percent
  • Transportation: 0.18 percent
  • Education: 14.71 percent
  • Clothing and shoes: -2.95 percent

Prices for healthcare expenses remained unchanged.

The price increases for wholesale goods are as follows:

  • Fuel and energy materials: 0.83 percent
  • Raw materials: 2.87 percent
  • Textiles (Woven): 1.93 percent
  • Building materials: 1.43 percent
  • Mines: 4.30 percent
  • Foodstuffs: 4.49 percent
  • Chemical substances: 3.64 percent

In the unprocessed materials group, prices decreased by -0.83 percent, while no change was observed in the textiles group last month.

Annual price increases are as follows:

  • Mines: 18.83 percent
  • Building materials: 66.60 percent
  • Textiles: 55.41 percent
  • Foodstuffs: 30.94 percent
  • Chemical substances: 26.55 percent
  • Raw materials: 29.70 percent
  • Fuel and energy: 24.29 percent
