DEM Party's reaction to 'espionage operation': Judicial operation

TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was detained this morning, following a raid on TELE1 TV. Yanardağ was detained as part of an espionage investigation launched against CHP presidential candidate and imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The DEM Party released a statement regarding the investigation and Yanardağ's detention. The statement read:
“TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was detained this morning.
In the morning hours, police raided TELE1 on charges of "espionage," and Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was detained.
We have learned that an "espionage" investigation has been launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as part of the same investigation.
It is clear that another judicial operation has been launched, which shows how much the scales of justice in the country have become distorted.
The duty of the law should be to ensure justice.
Unfortunately, however, judicial mechanisms in Türkiye have long been used as a tool to shape politics.
Trying to suppress politics and the press through desk-based political engineering will not bring success to those who are behind this effort.”
