Ashura was distributed to 20 thousand people in the historical Spice Bazaar

With the support of the General Directorate of Foundations, the Fatih Municipality and the Spice Bazaar Tradesmen Association, the '29th Spice Bazaar Traditional Ashura Festival' was organized. Ashura was distributed to 20 thousand people in 5 giant cauldrons at the Eminönü Historical Spice Bazaar due to the month of Muharram. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Fatih District Governor Cafer Sarılı, Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan, Foundations 1st Regional Manager Yavuz Güner, Spice Bazaar Tradesmen Assistance and Protection Association President Sami Koyuncu and people attended. At the event, protocol members served some of the ashura boiled in cauldrons.
Speaking at the program, Governor Gül said, “May God perpetuate the unity and solidarity of our nation. We thank all philanthropists and those who contributed to keeping this tradition alive for centuries.”
Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan stated that aşure is a symbol of unity and solidarity, and said, “The different ingredients in it represent unity within diversity. Today, our people and tourists are keeping this tradition alive together. I would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
