Petrobras: 'We are close to a consensus on the license to explore the mouth of the Amazon,' says Magda

Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard believes the company is "close to a consensus" on the license to explore the mouth of the Amazon . "Our perspective is that the 12th will be decisive in establishing the conditions and date for the Pre-Operational Authorization (APO). I have already spoken personally with the president of Ibama , who is aware of everything we are presenting, all the operational conditions," she stated.
"We are offering the largest and best individual emergency plan ever seen in the deepwater oil industry worldwide," he added, reiterating that the APO does not yet have a date.
As Estadão/Broadcast has already reported, the delay in Ibama's granting of the APO (Authorization and Public Authorization) for Petrobras to explore the Morpho well, in block FZA-M-59, in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, on Brazil's Equatorial Margin, has caused dissatisfaction at the state-owned company. The company spends more than R$4 million per day to keep the ODN II rig ready for operation .
The executive spoke to the press during the event "Energia Delas: Empoderamento Feminino nas Instituições" (Their Energy: Female Empowerment in Institutions), organized by Petrobras to discuss gender equality in public and private institutions and promote the exchange of experiences on the role of women in leadership positions.
BP DiscoveryWhen asked if there is a possibility of an agreement with British Petroleum (BP) regarding the Bumerangue field, in the pre-salt Santos Basin, the president of Petrobras emphasized that any decision will depend on "what the area will actually represent."
British Petroleum Corp. announced earlier this week that it had drilled exploratory well 1-BP-13-SPS in the Bumerangue block in the Santos Basin, 404 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro. The well has a reservoir approximately 500 meters below the top of the structure and penetrated an estimated gross hydrocarbon column of 500 meters in a high-quality pre-salt carbonate reservoir with an areal extent of over 300 square kilometers.
The company will begin laboratory analysis to better characterize the reservoir and discovered fluids, which will provide additional information about the Bumerangue block's potential. Analyses already conducted indicate elevated carbon dioxide levels.
"We are satisfied with the assets we already have. Now, if there is a real and good possibility, within the attractiveness range that Brazil desires, the doors are not closed to this project or to any other," Magda concluded.
