General Electric to Cut 600 Jobs in Europe

GE Vernova, which encompasses the energy activities of the American conglomerate General Electric (GE), will eliminate 600 jobs in Europe, including 120 in France. The announcement was made Tuesday by the French unions CFE-CGC and CGT.
This plan was announced at the European level on Thursday, Christophe Carignano (CFE-CGC), secretary of the social and economic committee of GE EPF, the French gas turbine manufacturer, told AFP. Of the 120 jobs to be eliminated in France, 42 will be at the Belfort plant, he explained.
Management is not launching an employment protection plan (PSE), but rather a conventional collective severance package (RCC). When questioned by AFP, the GE group simply stated: "When we develop restructuring plans, we communicate these projects as a priority to our employees and their representatives."
Support functions are affected, namely human resources, project management, financial services and quality.
GE Vernova employs 25,000 people in Europe. In France, the company has 8,000 employees, including approximately 1,300 in Belfort, at the gas turbine unit (GE EPF).
By 2024, GE Vernova had already eliminated 740 jobs in Europe, in the offshore wind turbine unit.
