The Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ) assured on Thursday that the regulation on detailed qualitative and dimensional characteristics of energy wood does not introduce a ban on burning wood in individual households or fireplaces.

The ministry indicated that energy wood is a wood raw material that is not industrially useful or has limited possibilities of use in the non-energy sector. The regulation will define the characteristics of this raw material in two groups: round wood and non-round wood.

"The regulation does not apply to households, but to the so-called professional energy, i.e. the energy sector. This term covers activities involving the production, transmission and distribution of electricity on a large scale," the Ministry of Climate emphasized. He explained that it primarily covers the operation of power plants, combined heat and power plants and transmission and distribution networks that supply energy to individual, industrial and institutional recipients throughout the country. "It is an organized and controlled system ensuring the continuity of energy supplies for the needs of the economy and society," he added.

The Ministry emphasized that the concept of energy wood is not equivalent to the concept of firewood. "Therefore, the regulations do not introduce a ban on burning wood in individual households or fireplaces," the ministry concluded.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment pointed out that the regulation was issued pursuant to a delegation resulting from the Renewable Energy Sources Act, which concerns the generation of electricity and heat in RES installations. "The most important objective of the regulation is to eliminate the phenomenon of burning wood in professional energy, which can be used industrially in a different, more economically advantageous way," it stated.
