Up to PLN 4,500 for cyclists. The government will subsidize bicycles

"My Electric Bike" is a government initiative aimed at supporting the purchase of electric bikes through a subsidy system. It provides subsidies of up to 50% of eligible costs, but no more than PLN 2,500 for standard bikes and up to PLN 4,500 for cargo bikes and electric bicycle carts.

The action will be implemented from 2025 to 2029 or until the funds, which currently amount to PLN 50 million , are exhausted. Subsidies will be available to individuals, and applications will be accepted on a continuous basis from the second quarter of 2025.

The "My Electric Bike" program is aimed at people planning to buy a new electric bike , cargo bike or electric bicycle cart. The program does not provide support for entrepreneurs or local government units. The funding will apply to purchases made from July 4, 2024 to May 30, 2029.

According to data published on the government website, to benefit from the subsidy, the purchased bike must meet clearly defined criteria :

• the vehicle must be new , manufactured no earlier than 24 months before the date of purchase, and come from a manufacturer in the European Union
• A lithium-ion (or similar) battery with a minimum capacity of 10 Ah and a minimum assisted driving range of 50 km is required
• the bicycle must be registered with the police and marked with a side number on the frame
• the subsidy does not cover bicycles purchased under leasing

The subsidy will be paid in the form of a refund , which means that you must first purchase the bike and then apply for a refund of part of the costs incurred . The application for subsidy can be submitted within 24 months of the date of purchase. Required documents include an invoice or receipt confirming the purchase and technical documentation of the bike confirming that the program requirements have been met.

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management estimates that with a budget of PLN 50 million, support will be provided to over 17.3 thousand vehicles . Initially, it was planned to finance the program from the EU Modernization Fund, but the European Investment Bank did not agree to this.

Work is currently underway on the final provisions of the program, and its launch is planned for the second quarter of 2025 .

A cargo bike is a special type of two-wheeler adapted to transport larger loads . In the electric version, it is equipped with a supporting engine, which makes it easier to ride with a load .
