Unemployment rate down in 85% of counties in Poland

The registered unemployment rate in April 2025 amounted to 5.2% and was 0.1 percentage point lower than a month ago - according to estimates by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.

As reported by the ministry, according to preliminary data, unemployment has fallen in all voivodeships, including in areas that suffered from floods last year.

"The unemployment rate in April 2025 compared to March 2025 this year decreased in all 16 voivodeships and in 85% of poviats in Poland, including in over 88% of poviats that suffered from flooding last year," the ministry reported.

He added that compared to April 2024, the unemployment rate in April 2025 increased slightly (by 0.1 percentage points).

The ministry also reported that, according to preliminary data, 804.5 thousand unemployed people were registered at labor offices at the end of April 2025. This means that compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed people decreased by over 25 thousand, and year-on-year increased by over 7 thousand people.

"The latest Eurostat data show that in March 2025, Poland ranked 2nd among EU countries in terms of unemployment rate (2.7%). This is a slight increase compared to February 2025 (2.6%). The number of unemployed in March this year amounted to 473 thousand, compared to 469 thousand a month earlier. Only the Czech Republic recorded lower unemployment (2.6%)," indicated MRPiPS. It added that the differences in unemployment according to MRPiPS and Eurostat result from methodological differences. (PAP)
