Not just cars anymore. Poles are starting to rent... electronics

A camera only for the holidays, the latest smartphone to test – equipment rental is experiencing a boom - notes Monday's "Rzeczpospolita".
"A new trend is growing in Poland – renting consumer electronics instead of buying them. This is a cheaper solution than buying them, which allows you to replace devices with the latest model every year. There are more and more consumers interested in renting, as well as companies that equip offices and employees in this way. There are already several Polish and international companies operating on the domestic market that are trying to develop it. But the demand is so high that even popular electronics stores, such as Media Markt or X-kom, have started offering such services," it was written.
It was reported that "globally this industry, referred to as DaaS (device as a service), is growing at a rate of 30 percent per year, but in our country the rate is even faster." "Operators in this segment rent computers, game consoles, televisions, projectors, smartwatches, drones, and even coffee machines," we read.
It was explained that "such an offer allows users to rent a camera or camcorder only for the duration of the holidays, and entrepreneurs to provide employees with, for example, smartphones and tablets."
As Przemysław Kazanowski, Head of Supply at Plenti, explains to "Rz", "the value of the consumer electronics rental market in Poland in 2024-2025 is to reach EUR 200 million". "For comparison, in the whole of Europe this segment is already estimated at EUR 7.5 billion," he added.
According to data from Cognitive Market Research, the Old Continent already accounts for 30 percent of the global electronics equipment rental market. (PAP)
