Hołownia: I am not planning a coalition with PiS, which is still, which I cannot understand, proud of the things it did wrong

Talking with the opposition is particularly important now, when it is necessary to establish what are the possibilities of cooperation with them and the new president on key issues for Poland - wrote the Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia. He added that he wants to dynamize the activities of the ruling coalition and assured that he does not plan a coalition with PiS.
Hołownia on Sunday took to social media to address the criticism he received after his Thursday visit to PiS MEP Adam Bielan. The meeting was also attended by the party's chairman, Jarosław Kaczyński. Hołownia assessed that polarization is "the cancer of our politics" and stressed that a conversation is needed with both the most important politicians of the ruling coalition and the leaders of the opposition.
"That's what I do and that's what I will do. Perhaps I am currently (hopefully not forever) the only politician in fractured Poland who is able to do it. And I am all the more convinced that it is necessary," he wrote.
The leader of Poland 2050 emphasized that he wants to dynamize the activities of the ruling coalition and restart the hope that it brought with the parliamentary elections in the fall of 2023. "I do not plan a coalition with PiS, which is still, which I cannot understand, proud of the things it did wrong," he assured.
"The conversation with the opposition seems particularly important to me now, when it is necessary to establish whether - despite all the obvious differences - there are common points. What are the possibilities of cooperation with the opposition, including the new president, on key issues for Poland, such as the army, Ukraine, relations with the USA. They concern both the first, the second and the third Poland, which did not fit into either this or that 10 million, " the Marshal of the Sejm announced.
Hołownia pointed out that the insults poured on him by both coalition partners and their supporters do not impress him, and that when he co-created the coalition, he did not join a sect in which contact with someone from the outside means "involving ritual impurity". He admitted, however, that next time he will choose the meeting places more wisely.
"I say it clearly, simply, firmly: I am interested in peace, not war. I intend to consistently follow this path with those who wish the same for themselves and for all of us," the politician wrote.
He also assured that in November he would "leave the Sejm" in a better condition than he found it, taking over the Speaker's seat - open to the media and visitors, considering opposition projects, in which the Speaker invites not only representatives of clubs, but also parliamentary groups to participate in the Senior Conventions.
During Sunday's press conference, the PiS chairman was also asked about the meeting with Hołownia, and said: "Poland - this word is completely justified - must be saved. That's what we talked about."
On Friday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with the leaders of the coalition parties: Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL), Szymon Hołownia (Poland 2050) and Włodzimierz Czarzasty (New Left), during which he presented them with proposals for the reconstruction of the government, which was to take place in mid-July. "As you can see, maintaining the coalition is difficult , but possible, as is the reconstruction of the government and agreeing on a strategy that will allow you to go on the offensive after losing the presidential election. Of course, it requires courage and loyalty. Despite the difficulties you know, I will carry out this task," the head of government commented on Saturday on Platform X. (PAP)
