Borrowers are waiting for a breakthrough. Today, the NBP decision on interest rates

The Monetary Policy Council is meeting, during which a decision may be made to lower interest rates - earlier, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Marshal Szymon Hołownia, among others, called for such action. The meeting will traditionally be crowned with a conference by the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński.
Experts expect that at the current MPC meeting, an important decision for borrowers will be made regarding changes in interest rates. This was discussed by the President of the National Bank of Poland, Prof. Adam Glapiński .
Glapiński on lowering interest ratesThe possibility of lowering interest rates in the near future was indicated by the NBP president. At the April conference after the Council meeting, he assessed that this could happen in May and subsequent months.
Glapiński stressed, however, that this should not be a series of cuts, but a one-time adjustment to lower inflation. According to him, this year, in an optimistic scenario, there could be two rate cuts, each by 0.5 percentage points .

Earlier, for a long time, the NBP president argued that, among other things, due to increased inflation, there was no room to change interest rates. He pointed out that in the conditions of the ongoing economic recovery, rapid wage growth and loose fiscal policy, the MPC must conduct monetary policy in such a way as not to allow inflation to persist at an elevated level.
MPC member: Interest rates will be cutMember of the Monetary Policy Council Ludwik Kotecki spoke in one of the April editions of "Gość Wydarzeń" about whether and when we can expect a reduction in interest rates. Their level affects the amount of installments paid by borrowers. - I have been talking about the need and space for reducing rates for at least five or six months - he noted.
The Council members began a "profound" debate on the subject in April. - In 2023, we had inflation at a level of probably 11 percent on average per year, and now we have 4.9 and it looks like by the end of the year we will have it below 4 - Kotecki explained.

Asked by Piotr Witwicki when exactly we can expect the cuts, Ludwik Kotecki gave the date of May 7 - after the MPC meeting. - All of us say that there will be a discussion about cuts at the meeting. The question is not "if", but "how much" these increases will be and whether it will be the beginning of a cycle or a one-time adjustment - explained Ludwik Kotecki.
