KLM is filing summary proceedings to prevent the strike of ground staff at Schiphol from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM announced by the trade unions FNV and CNV next Wednesday. The airline says that the consequences of this, especially during the peak summer holiday period, are unacceptable due to operational and safety risks. Moreover, FNV and CNV have not reached safety agreements with KLM about this announced action, according to the company.

In addition, KLM has made a concrete wage offer to all unions, including FNV and CNV, as previously requested by the unions. An improved substantive proposal has also been made to the unions involved in the basic collective labor agreement. Despite this offer, both unions indicate that they are not prepared to continue the discussion and are taking action, according to a statement.

Judge bans 24-hour strike by KLM ground staff at Schiphol on Saturday

The unions announced the strike on Wednesday. Last week, a judge banned a 24-hour strike by ground staff scheduled for last Saturday due to safety concerns.

Concrete proposal

KLM came up with a concrete wage proposal on Wednesday, hoping to provide sufficient starting points to reach an agreement at the collective bargaining table. Employees can receive a one-off payment of 1,000 euros this year. As of 1 July next year, a structural wage increase of up to 2.5 percent would follow, depending on the company profit achieved this year.

KLM initially refused to offer a pay rise, which angered the unions. In addition to higher pay, the unions also have other demands, such as a permanent arrangement for people with heavy work to retire earlier.

The summary proceedings will start at 1:30 PM at the court in Amsterdam, according to a KLM spokeswoman.
