Laia Estrada accuses Junts and ERC of exchanging self-determination for a “fiscal pact”

The president of the CUP Parliamentary Group, Laia Estrada, has attacked Junts and ERC for having renounced self-determination in favour of a “fiscal pact”, which she considers “a joke” and a ten-year setback in the independence strategy. “They have the same strategy and it seems that they have taken a step back,” she said in an interview on Cafè d'idees with Gemma Nierga.
Estrada also accused Junts of legitimising the discourse of the far right for electoral interests, stating that the juntaires repeat the narrative about insecurity by focusing on the immigrant population. “They are buying into the framework of the far right because they see a flight of votes and are preparing the ground for possible pacts with Aliança Catalana,” he denounced.
In this regard, he has criticised Junts for having broken the cordon sanitaire in Ripoll, where he claims there was a consensus to prevent the extreme right from governing, but that Carles Puigdemont's party has prevented it due to partisan interests.

As for the housing issue, the MP warned that “construction is not enough” and pointed out that the measures of the PSC and the PSOE “are not as ambitious as they should be”. She also announced that the CUP is negotiating the convening of a special plenary session on housing in the Parliament.
Regarding mobility, Estrada has expressed scepticism regarding the transfer of Rodalies to the Generalitat, which he has described as “a marketing operation” and has argued that the CUP will not participate in the meetings prior to the Bilateral Commissions, as he considers them to be “a double farce” and “a sham”.
The MP says that the failure of the left paves the way for the growth of the far rightOn the international level, Estrada has assessed the rise of the extreme right in Germany , stating that “it should be familiar enough to us” because the same phenomenon is occurring in Catalonia and Spain with the Catalan Alliance and Vox. He has attributed this growth to social unrest and the lack of responses from the left: “The left is not acting like the left, and that favours the rise of the extreme right”. He has also pointed out that the Catalan Alliance is fuelled by a “double unrest”: the violation of living conditions and the feeling of betrayal by a part of the independence movement.
Finally, he warned that the far right are the “useful fools of the great fortunes” who act by offering false solutions to the working class, and argued that the only way to stop them is to address social unrest with real left-wing policies.
