The food industry in Castilla y León is equipped with a self-diagnosis tool for climate risks

The Food Industry Association of Castilla y León, Vitartis, has developed a digital tool for self-diagnosis of climate risks to meet the requirements of the Spanish Climate Change Law, which will require companies to submit an annual report on the financial impact of these risks starting this year.
This system is available to partners free of charge and aims to help companies in the sector integrate climate risk management into their business strategy, allowing them to anticipate possible impacts and design adaptation and mitigation measures.
Its advantages include its ability to facilitate understanding of the methodology and key technical aspects of climate risk assessment. It also includes a manual that provides reliable resources to improve the analysis .
Designed to be intuitive and accessible, it makes it easy for companies to use without the need for advanced knowledge in the field and establishes a process that involves defining objectives, collecting information, identifying risks and opportunities, evaluating them and establishing management measures through adaptation and migration plans.
The initiative, developed by Vitartis in collaboration with the sustainability consultancy Omawa Huella Ecológica, has been launched within the framework of the Arca project, financed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Junta de Castilla y León through the 2024 regional call for support for Innovative Business Groups, co-financed with Feder funds.
For the development of this tool, 14 pilot projects have been carried out in as many partner food industries, six of which are SMEs. These are Agrocesa, Alma Carraovejas, Emilio Esteban, Gepisa, Grupo Entrepinares, Grupo Mirat, Grupo Uvesa, Hermi, Huercasa, Innoporc, Leche Gaza, Octaviano Palomo, Patatas Meléndez and The 42 Degrees Company.
These projects have served to make this system known internally in companies, as well as to test its operation and contribute to its improvement, so that it becomes a true roadmap .
