Miguel Uribe Turbay's father will be a presidential candidate for the Democratic Center.

Miguel Uribe Londoño will be the new presidential candidate for the Democratic Center, replacing his son, the assassinated Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay.

This was announced by the party on Friday, August 22, in a statement following several days of intense meetings between the party, Uribe Turbay's family, and the other pre-candidates. Uribe Londoño's intention to enter the electoral process, which his son had been running until June 7, when he was the victim of a hitman attack, was notified to the party on August 21, and, according to the party, there was consensus with María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín, and Andrés Guerra, who are pre-candidates, as well as with the Uribe leadership.

"Mr. Uribe Londoño stated that the family of Miguel Uribe Turbay unanimously decided that he would be the one to enter the selection process for the presidential candidate of the Democratic Center Party in the absence of his son," the statement said, adding that "taking this into account, the Democratic Center Party and its presidential pre-candidates welcome Mr. Miguel Uribe Londoño, who as of today enters the selection process for the presidential candidate."

The party clarifies that, like the other presidential candidates, Uribe Turbay must participate in all debates and activities as part of the selection process for a single candidate, which will be determined through a survey in the coming months.

Uribe Londoño has held several public offices. He has served as a Bogotá councilman and as a senator for the Conservative Party.

"The Democratic Center Party will define its presidential candidate between December 2025 and January 2026 through an international poll. The candidate will then participate in a consultation on March 8 to select a single candidate from a grassroots democratic unity that will rebuild the nation's democratic path," the statement concludes.
