Infonavit: How can I make contributions on my own?

According to the portal of the National Workers' Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit), if you work independently on your own, You can now make voluntary contributions and generate savings in your Housing Subaccount, even if you live in the United States.

The money you accumulate will not only generate returns that are equal to or greater than inflation, but will also allow you to access Infonavit's credit products to buy a house or land, build your home, make improvements to your home or pay a bank mortgage debt.

Likewise, according to Infonavit, you can use these resources to supplement your pension upon retirement.

To contribute voluntarily you only have to:

· Go to the Mexican Social Security Institute website ( imss.gob.mx ).

· Go to the “Shortcuts” section and select the “Self-Employed Persons” option.

· Click on Start the Procedure and enter the requested information. You must have your CURP, RFC, Social Security Number (NSS), a personal email address and be registered with an Afore or register immediately after signing up.

· Indicate your occupation and the geographical area where you live.

· Specify your income level.

The payment of the fees is calculated based on income, so it is important that you correctly report how much you earn per month.

· Once you indicate your income, your screen will show how much you must pay for insurance services with the IMSS and the amount of housing contributions for Infonavit.

It is important that you make your payments on time, depending on the frequency selected (monthly, semi-annual or annual), so that you can generate savings in your Housing Subaccount and, over time, be able to access the credit products offered by Infonavit.

To verify how much savings you have in Infonavit, you must review the “Housing Savings” section of your Afore account statement, or consult your Summary of Movements from My Infonavit Account ( micuenta.infonavit.org.mx ).
